Record Store Day 2011: Saturday, April 16
It’s almost here! The fourth annual Record Store Day! I’m so very excited. For those of you who are unfamiliar the website has a great description:
This is the one day that all of the independently owned record stores come together with artists to celebrate the art of music. Special vinyl and CD releases and various promotional products are made exclusively for the day and hundreds of artists in the United States and in various countries across the globe make special appearances and performances. Festivities include performances, cook-outs, body painting, meet & greets with artists, parades, djs spinning records and on and on. Record Store Day is now celebrated the third Saturday every April.

I first attended in 2009 at Vertigo Music in Grand Rapids and it was spectacular. There was indeed cookouts, free Founders beer, live in-store performances, and an all-out, all-day party. I will be heading to the party at Vertigo again this year and have made a wish-list (in alpha-order). I’m pretty sure I won’t get them all, either because they’re not available or because my budget will be shot, but I can dream.
