new listen: Vetiver’s “Wonder Why” off the recently released Errant Charm

Last month San Francisco’s Vetiver released their fifth and latest album titled Errant Charm to pretty stellar reviews. The album was written while Andy Cabic wandered around San Francisco “zoning out” creating the pieces of the album. When you listen it really is an album that would be perfect to listen to riding a bike or taking a walk on a summer day. It’s been 2 years since their last album, Tight Knit, was released to critical acclaim though I’m not sure they’ve really had great commercial success with any of the albums.

Their tour in support of this release is mostly as support to the Fruit Bats. (How you know them: they were featured on the soundtrack to Youth In Revolt starring the awkward and adorable Michael Cera.) It’s a good pairing, I think. Fruit Bats share a similar late 60s / early 70s california folk-rock sound (think Gram Parsons NOT The Eagles). They’ll be in Chicago at Lincoln Hall Thursday, September 8, the start of Labor Day weekend. Tempting but damn I hate driving to Chicago for shows.
